Dave Ramsey's Take On Bitcoin May Surprise You

Dave Ramsey is a straight shooter, keeps it simple, and it is not afraid to call something stupid if that's how he feels about it.

Which is one of the many reasons the Crypto Christian loves him.

Dave Ramsey's take on Bitcoin seems to be evolving and his position on the digital asset may surprise you.

Ramsey has a long career of providing Christians with sound financial and lifestyle advice to save, get out of debt, and build wealth. In fact, Ramsey's book, "The Total Money Makeover" has helped members of the Crypto Christian get out of debt and learn the basics of personal finance.

His advice is rooted in Scripture and common sense:

  • Have an emergency fund
  • Don't waste money on things you don't need
  • Get out of debt as soon as you possibly can
  • Save, build generational wealth, and give generously

There's nothing on the list we disagree with. His advice on how to invest and best use credit cards is a little more debatable. But we have nothing but respect for Dave Ramsey and what he's done for the Christian community.

So what does Dave think about Bitcoin?

He has consistently expressed a fair amount of skepticism about the digital asset and warned people against it as a "high-risk" investment.

In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 Dave has several clips on his show where he gives Bitcoin quite the beating. We'll let him speak for himself by embedding his video below:

In this video from 2017, he bashes Bitcoin as volatile and immature going so far as to compare it to gambling.  Here's how he concludes his thoughts on Bitcoin:

"If it survives, and I hope it does... I like the concept of it... So here's what's going to happen, some of you that are greedy and are immature children... You're going to lose a lot of money. And I hope you don't. But you're going to. He who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. There's the old man talking. We'll see how it turns out in five years." - Dave Ramsey (emphasis added).

Well, it's been five years since 2017.

And it turns out if you had purchased Bitcoin in 2017 you would have over a 100% return on your investment. You can view Bitcoin's price history here.

So has Dave Ramsey changed his tune? Not exactly, but it's a lot less bombastic than it was in 2017.

Dave's co-host, Ken Coleman, even states he believes Bitcoin is here to stay... but does not recommend investing in it. The two hosts also admit that people have made a lot of money with Bitcoin... but then compare it to making money selling cocaine or gambling.

Fortunately, it does appear Dave Ramsey is warming up to Bitcoin. He admits that it's worked for many people and can't deny the numbers.

However, he is unlikely to embrace it any time soon as his investment strategy continues to work for him, his company, and his audience.

Fingers crossed in ANOTHER FIVE YEARS, Dave Ramsey will consider adding Bitcoin to his portfolio. Bitcoin is Sound Money and shares many of the values God details in Scripture when it comes to money.
